corporal works of mercy
   This phrase (from the Latin corpus, meaning "body") refers to those works of mercy that complement the spiritual works of mercy; the corporal works of mercy, which are charitable activities intended to help a person's neighbors in their physical needs, include feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, giving shelter to strangers, and burying the dead.
